Reconfiguring Accounts:
Tools -> Accounts -> Mail Tab -> Properties -> Servers Tab:
Be sure to have the 'Servers' tab selected for this help.
This tab contains information about the servers you connect to and how:
- "My incoming mail server is a" - This is the type of service this account uses. You can't change it, you can only delete it and create a new account with a different type. IMAP accounts have an additional IMAP tab.
- "Incoming mail (POP3) or (IMAP)" - The name of the server you wish to use. It should be "pop3.dnx.net" for POP3 service and "imap.dnx.net" for IMAP service. (At the time of with writing, both server names are interchangable.) If the name isn't a valid server name, you will get a cryptic error message.
- "Account Name" - This is your E-mail account,(not the address), it may just be the left hand portion of your E-mail address. (i.e. youraccount if it's youraccount@dnx.net) If we host your organizations domain, it's possible this could be something entirely different. (i.e. If you're at Xyz Corp., your account could be something like: 'xy-judy'.).
- "Password"' - The password is the accompanying password to this account. The things you type here are hidden. (Getting this wrong is the biggest mistake people make.)
- "Remember password" - If you care about others getting your E-mail from this computer, don't select this. You'll need to enter your password each time you get your mail. If your computer is secure or you don't care if anyone can view your E-mail, then select this option, but keep your password somewhere safe. A common support call is forgetting your password.
- "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" - We do not use SPA. Do NOT check this box! Trying to send mail with this option will fail with an unintelligable cryptic message.
- "My server requires authentication"
- If your E-mail is hosted with us. (Usually the case) Use this option to send through our mail servers when you're connecting from outside, (i.e. via a DSL or cable connection.) (Which appears to be the case.) WARNING: You must also make sure the Outgoing mail (SMTP) under the Advanced Tab is set to port 587 instead of the default of 25!
You can safely use this for all connections.
- If your E-mail is NOT hosted by us and you want to send out mail using our servers, you can use your Dialup account and password on the "Settings" dialog as below:
If this option set, the 'Settings...' button is available. Clicking on that button brings up the following:
Normally, we use the same settings as the incoming mail server, but if you're E-mail is hosted elsewhere and you want to send using our servers, set "Account name" to your dialup account, and for "Password" use your dialup password
Click on 'OK' to save your settings, select another tab, cancel to abort.
